3. The display area, the main section on the right, displays the information from the selected menu item on the left.

The Value Line Investment Survey subscription page is one of many sections of the Research Center on the Value Line website. A complete list of Value Line's available subscription services is available on the Products & Services page, which is one of the tabs on the menu bar in the header section.

Description

Selecting the Description item from the Value Line Investment Survey menu list opens a one-page textual description of the Value Line Investment Survey as shown here (See Figure 2-3).

Survey Issues

The Survey Issues selection is displayed by default after log on and selection of the Value Line Investment Survey from the list of available subscription services. Links to all 13 issues in the current cycle can be found in the display area (See Figure 2-4). Value Line Publishing, Inc. issues the Value Line Investment Survey publications in 13-week cycles, reporting on the same companies in the same number of each cycle. The display is divided into two sections, Current Issue and Back Issues (Reference Library).

Current Issue

The current issue is displayed with icons for Ratings & Reports (R&R), Selection & Opinion (S&O), Summary & Index (S&I), Ratings & Reports Cover Page (R&R) and Ratings & Reports Supplementary (R&R) (See Figure 2-5). The Current Issue section of the Survey Issues screen includes the issue number and date of the current issue of the Value Line Investment Survey, the five icons that link you to the various sections and pages of the survey. Left clicking on one of the back issues will display that issue's icons.

Current Issue

The current issue section of the Survey Issues display area includes: Ratings & Reports (R&R), Selection & Opinion (S&O), Summary & Index (S&I), Std. R&R Cover Page (R&R) and Std. R&R Supplementary (R&R) (See Figure 2-6).

Ratings & Reports

The Ratings & Reports (R&R) icon opens a list of all the companies included in that issue (See Figure 2-7).

The column headings, Company (ticker), Industry and Timeliness are links that, when clicked on, rearrange the table by alphabetizing the data for the selected column.

Each company name with ticker symbol and corresponding PDF symbol is a hyperlink to that company's Ratings & Reports survey page.

The HTML icon will open a new webpage in HTML format of the information that is contained in the Ratings & Reports survey page for that company.

A Value Line Investment Survey icon appearing in the Alert column is a link to open a new window with an update regarding that company. Each Industry name is a link to the corresponding Industry Look Up page. The elements in the Industry Look Up page table perform the same functions as the Ratings & Reports table (See Figure 2-8).

The company name, ticker symbol and PDF icon are hyperlinks to the Ratings & Reports survey page in Adobe Acrobat Reader format (See Figure 2-9).

The HTML icon is a hyperlink to the Ratings & Reports survey page information displayed in a format compatible with most Internet browsers (See Figure 2-10).

The Ratings & Reports Supplementary (R&R) icon opens an Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF file of the supplementary pages of the Ratings & Reports section of the Value Line Investment Survey (See Fig 2-11). The individual company reports found in this section provide information similar in context to the information provided in an update found in the Alert column.

The Selection & Opinion (S&O) icon opens an Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF version of the Selection & Opinion newsletter (See Figure 2-12) that is published weekly as part of the printed Value Line Investment Survey Print Edition Part 2.

The Summary &Index (S&I) icon opens an Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF version of the Summary & Index section of the Value Line Investment Survey Print Edition Part 2 (See Figure 2-13).

Back Issues (Reference Library)

These issues are listed by date and issue number. Clicking on each of these entries will display the icons associated with the selected issue (See Figure 2-14).

The icons are Ratings & Reports (R&R), Selection & Opinion (S&O), Summary & Index (S&I), Ratings & Reports Cover Page (R&R) and Ratings & Reports Supplementary (R&R).

Only one back issue can be displayed in expanded format at a time. Selecting a different back issue will cause the screen to overlay the previously selected issue with the newly selected issue.

Lookup Industry

The Lookup Industry menu item found below the Survey Issues menu item in the menu column opens the Lookup Industry page (See Figure 3-1) , which displays the complete list of industries in table format. At the top of this page is a search field entitled: Enter the Industry with a data field to the right. The name of an industry may be entered into the data field followed by clicking on the OK button to search for a specific industry.

Browse

The Lookup Industry table consists of four columns with the following headings: Industry (Company Breakdown), Industry Commentary, Industry Rank and Issue Date. The table may be sorted by the industry name or industry rank by clicking on either of the column headings. The individual industry names listed below open the corresponding Search for Report by Industry table (See Figure 3-2). In some cases there may be industries listed in which Value Line does not evaluate any of the companies in that industry, but does provide an industry commentary. The Search for Report by Industry table is similar to the Ratings & Reports list in the number and types of columns and the information contained in them.

The link found in the Industry Commentary column opens the corresponding survey page in PDF format (See Figure 3-3). This document is the page from the Value Line Investment Survey that evaluates that industry.

Search

To search for a specific industry, enter the name of an industry in the data field provided at the top of the page and click on the OK button (See Figure 3-4). The resulting table is similar to the other tables provided in this database. The industry name will open a list of all companies from the Value Line Industrial Survey that are in that industry, if any.

The PDF icon found in the Industry Commentary column is a link to the evaluation page from the Value Line Industrial Survey.

If the search results in more than one industry name, the list may be sorted by the industry name or rank by clicking on the corresponding column heading.

Lookup Company

Selecting the Lookup Company menu item found in the menu column opens to a search page (See Figure 4-1). This search page can locate a particular company's survey from the Value Line Ratings & Reports. The Lookup Company page allows for a search by either company name, industry name or ticker symbol. The page is set to search by ticker symbol by default.

To conduct a search, enter the search term in the data field provided and then select from the available search methods below by clicking on the appropriate button provided to the left of the three choices: Company, Industry or Ticker.

Clicking the OK button begins the search.

The results are displayed below in a table format similar to the other tables in this database (See Figure 4-2). The company name with ticker symbol or the corresponding PDF symbol is a hyperlink to that company's Ratings & Reports survey page in an Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF format. The HTML icon will open a new browser window with the information contained in the Ratings & Reports survey page in HTML format.

The industry name for each company is a link to the corresponding Industry Look Up page. The Lookup Company and Lookup Industry lists can be sorted by Company (Ticker) or Industry by clicking on the column header.

Rank Changes

The Rank Changes menu item in the menu column opens the Timeliness & Performance Rank Changes page. The display consists of the 15 rows corresponding to the last 15 issues of the Value Line Investment Survey (See Figure 5-1). There are four columns, one for All Rank Changes, Ranks Moving Up, Ranks Moving Down, and File Format.

Each entry in the first 3 columns is a link to a list of stocks that have changed rank on the displayed date. The dates in each row are the same for all columns. The All Ranks column is a link to a listing of all companies that have changed rank for the given date. The table displaying the list of companies may be sorted by any of the column headings.

There are three available links above the table displaying the list of companies, All Ranks, Stocks Moving Up and Stocks Moving Down (See Figure 5-2) . These three links correspond to the first 3 columns of the Rank Changes page respectively.

Any company that changes rank on the week prior to the date listed will be included in the list. A company does not have to be included in the Ratings & Reports for that week to be included in the Rank Changes.

Each link found in the File Format column opens a list in text format with the same information that is provided in the All Ranks list for the corresponding date (See Figure 5-3).

Supplementary Reports

The Supplementary Reports menu item in the menu column opens a list of links to supplementary reports (See Figure 6-1).

Reports

Each company name listed, with the date of its release, is a link that displays the supplementary report for the company.

The list of reports dates back 3 months, corresponding with the issues found in the Survey Issues menu item page.

When an item in the list is clicked on, the report appears in the space to the right of the list.

Stock Screening

The Stock Screening menu item in the menu column opens the Value Line Investment Survey Stock Screener in the display area and a new menu column on the left side of the screen with items relevant to the Stock Screening section.
