Investors may be getting used to the disappointing news that a trade deal between the U.S. and China has failed to materialize as hoped.

Stock Market Today: May 8, 2019

05/08/2019 The stock market got off to a weak start this morning, reversed course at midday and through much of the afternoon, but sold off into the close. Equities have been quite volatile over the past couple of days, with investors monitoring the strained trade negotiations taking place between the United States and China. Needless to say, the path has been bumpy lately, with China showing some reluctance to move forward, and President Trump responding with threats of additional tariffs.

Stock Market Today: April 25, 2019

04/25/2019 The stock market put in a mixed-to-weak performance today, as investors digested the latest batch of corporate profit reports. At the end of the session, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 135 points (after a sharper drop of more than 285 points earlier this morning). The S&P 500 Index closed off nominally, as well. However, the NASDAQ managed to advance 17 points.

04/24/2019 The stock market delivered a choppy, and somewhat weak, performancetoday. At the close of trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 59 points; the S&P 500 Index was off six points; and the NASDAQ was lower by 19 points.

Dow 30 Earnings: Boeing First Quarter 2019

04/24/2019 Aerospace and defense giant The Boeing Company (BA) has reported March-period financial results. For the quarter, revenues came in at $22.9 billion, or 2% lower than the year-earlier tally. As for the bottom line, Boeing posted profits of $3.75 a share, compared to $4.15 last year. Of course, the quarter was significantly impacted by its troubled 737 Max 8 aircraft.

Stock Market Today: April 15, 2019

04/15/2019 The stock market traded lower this morning, but managed to partially pare its losses in the afternoon. At the end of the session, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 28 points; the S&P 500 Index was off almost two points; and the NASDAQ was lower by eight points. Market breadth showed a divided session, with decliners outpacing advancers by a narrow margin on the NYSE.

Stock Market Today: April 9, 2019

04/09/2019 The stock market started the day lower, as concerns rose about the strength of the upcoming earnings season. The markets have run up considerably since the lows late last December. Still, expectations for profits are somewhat lackluster. Indeed, the S&P 500 projects earnings to be down over 4% year over year in the first quarter. All told, the Dow finished the day down 190 points the S&P 500 closed off almost 17 points, and NASDAQ fell about 45 points.

Stock Market Today: April 5, 2019

04/05/2019 Stocks closed the week on a firm note following a generally favorable monthly employment report. The Labor Department this morning reported that nonfarm payrolls rose by 196,000 in March. That was above expectations and well ahead of February’s weak revised showing of 33,000. Other figures in the report indicated that the nation’s unemployment rate remained low, at 3.8%, and wage growth over the past 12 months was decent, at 3.2%.

Stock Market Today: April 4, 2019

04/04/2019 The market started trading quite positively today, aided by solid price action from Dow-30 component Boeing (BA). This helped the Dow Jones Industrial Average climb more than 170 points in the early portion of trading, while the other composites marched higher in tandem. Then, the market reached an overbought condition, and started to slip in the second half of the day. The S&P 500 was in the red for a spell. However, the markets regained some of their early steam, and attempted to record new highs for the day. This move nearly succeeded on the Dow, but not the NASDAQ. All told, the Dow was higher by 167 points, the S&P 500 was ahead six points, but the NASDAQ slipped almost four points.
